eAward Suggestions » lower 48 6M award Sep 6, 2020 02:02 PM (Total replies: 2)

Sorry for typos, can barely see this AM, eye inf issue. WAS was not supposed to be super hard, but until we get a new sunspot peak, HI and AK QSO's, for the guy with a small beam and typically 50 watt 6M station, using the newer HF rigs that add 6M, are rare, and often have windows of a few minutes. When 8 to 5 workers are factored in, the chance are indeed few. So I believe that a tough but achievable award for the modest 6m station will have a positive effect on the band and encourage more ops. A number of your awards do the same for other bands; 6M needs one. 73 Karl (see WA2KBZ on QRZ as well as W5EWF Club)

eAward Suggestions » lower 48 6M award Sep 6, 2020 01:53 PM (Total replies: 2)

Hi all,
Karl, WA2KBZ here. I recently suggested to W2VU of CQ, that he create a Lower 48 6M award. He liked the concept but had no manpower for it. I even created a sample (federal eagle in middle, etc. The idea would be like an Assoc Degree as stepping stone to a bachelor's, or WAC on way to DXCC. Given the lousy band condx, it makes sense. It would be equiv to the old WAS, before AK and HI came in to USA as states. Given that a lot of hams now have 6M, but often a modest antenna, or no special 6M ant , it would be doable and give an intermediate goal to shoot for, and likely inspire more 6M activity, and building better stations. Your eDX 50 is in the same vein. It could be the LOWER 48 6M ( or even 2M) award, subtitle being The original 48 state Worked USA award.

\Please consider it and pass to the :Boss". 73 Karl Wa@KBZ / W5EWF
