eAward Suggestions » I think we need an eGrid award. Nov 27, 2005 09:52 PM (Total replies: 27)

In your discussions and final rollout of the eGrid awards, please remember to include the mobiles (or rovers in the vhf/uhf contests). Contacts with the mobiles are real contacts and the stations contacting them need to be able to count those contacts towards their totals. And, on the other side, the mobiles need to be able to upload their grid location to the system, something I don't think is possible right now.

As an active hf mobile and vhf/uhf/microwave rover, I've set up separate accounts so that contacts I make while away from home can be made very obvious that they are not from my home station. Every contact has the grid information in the comments section but for an egrid award to work, it needs to be in the database so that the system can count them up. So far, my N2MH/M account has 1539 contacts posted with 152 replies and my N2MH/R account has 1240 contacts posted with 366 replies.

As for possible awards, perhaps in additon to the standard "worked xx grids", a different category catering to the mobile/rover could be set up. Something along the lines of "worked W1ABC in xx grids". This would give the mobile/rove more of an incentive to upload his contacts. People would try to work him whever he went. This would also get away from the copycat awards based on awards that other groups that have been around for years.
