By submitting a .JPG or scanned image of someone's amateur radio license, with a clear image of the operator's actual signiture, is it safe? How does eQSL.cc protect that critical information from identity thieft ?

The licence is stored in the database as part of the account information. No one from the outside has access to the account.

As a security professional, I would find it difficult to come up with any plausible scenario where an identity theft could be arranged through the acquisition of a scanned copy of someone's amateur radio licence and signature.

Nevertheless, William has a point - it is PRIVATE information and should be stored with proper protections: things like auditable access control and encryption. I'm not up on US privacy laws, but I'm fairly sure there is some legal requirement to protect personally identifiable information.

As a security professional myself, watch the news the Dept of OPM has just been hacked and my (as well as over 14 million other) government employees life history and PI has been compromised (and this is the Federal Government in charge of people's clearances.) Other than sending my signature and address with my FRM number (linked to my SS#) how else "can I accomodate getting authenticated" since the LOTW link is not working. (The 3 P's).

Most users here that have AG have used the licence scan method, more than 95%.

In the US or Canada you can use method 1, which mails out a postcard with an authentication code to the official address on file in the FCC or RAC database. Takes a long time though, around 60 days. Licence scan method takes one or 2 days.

LoTW method hasn't worked for a while, ARRL started blocking requests from eQSL.
