I'd like to use the 0 with a slash; how can I do that?

I did at one time know the code entry to do that. I don't know exactly what you are trying to do, but there is no simple answer that I know. Supposedly there is a windows font "fixsys" that had a slash zero but I can or have not found it yet. Microsoft Word has a slashed zero available for documents by "Insert/Symbols" Font (normal text) Subset Latin-1. Once you locate the symbol you can make a "shortcut keystroke" to make its use easier. I use Ctrl Shift O as my shortcut. Also once you have the Ø in your documment you can highlight it press Ctrl C to copy it to the clipboard and the use Ctrl V command to place it in other text portions of programs.

If you write html code you can use Ø or ø and then select any font style.

If you are using a photo or imaging program position your O or 0 in your text where you want it and then use another text object to make the / and place it over the O or 0. I have used both methods to make QSL cards and other printable items.

Some fonts have the slashed zero available in the extended character set. To access this character, hold the Alt key down and type 216 into the numeric keypad (not the top row of numbers on the keyboard).

Also, make sure your keypad is in Num Lock or this technique won't work. Be aware not all fonts have the slashed zero character. You can experiment with different fonts.

Some other useful characters can be access using this method too. I have these shortcuts taped to my keyboard.

Alt + 155 gives you the cents sign
Alt + 171 gives you the 1/4 fraction
Alt + 172 gives you the 1/2 fraction
Alt + 216 gives you the slashed zero
Alt + 241 gives you the plus/minus sign
Alt + 246 gives you the division sign
Alt + 247 gives you the approximate equal sign
Alt + 248 gives you the degrees sign

Let's see if they work using the default font in this editor:

155 = ¢
171 = ½
172 = ¼
216 = ╪
241 = ±
246 = ÷
247 = ≈
248 = °

Well everything BUT the slashed zero seems to work in this online editor! You might find some of the symbols in different Alt + ### locations. There isn't a universal, consistent assignment of the numbers and characters.

But knowing this trick can get you some nifty symbols when you want them.

What Bob said about using the keypad for the numbers is what I couldn't remember. Thanks, Bob.

Do not use any of those ALT+ symbols with eQSL because it won't recognize them as the characters you think they are. For example KØARY is not a recognized ham call on eQSL because the character that looks like a slashed zero is really a capitol Oscar in Microsoft’s Western European character set and eQSL interprets it that way.

If you are really curious its ALT+0216 but now that you know that please forget it.You may like the way it looks but you won't like the way it works. Use the real zero on your keyboard I.E.: K0ARY.
