Hello,
I am preparing eQSL recognition for an award program in OK. There is a problem with online QSO verification. Imagine this situation: Station A sends a QSL to station B, but B honestly rejects it because it is not in his log. Later on B changes his mind, perhaps it was a difficult DX on a difficult band using a rare mode. B applies for an e-award issued by someone other than eQSL.cc and uses his rejected QSO in the award application. Now, the award issuer wil take B's application list and makes a verification request to eQSL.cc for each contact. What happens is that http://www.eQSL.cc/qslcard/VerifyQSO.cfm will actually confirm that B made a contact with A on the indicated date using the indicated mode, although B has previously denied that by rejecting the QSL. Paradoxically, if A made an attempt to send a false QSL to B and then applied for an e-award using that QSO, verification would be negative. I am afraid that, given this verification behavior, the value od using eQSL for verification of some organization's own e-awards is quite doubtful. 73 Jindra OK4RM OK4RM Jindrich Vavruska |

This bug was fixed the same day it was brought to our attention by Jindra. Now if you try to use VerifyQSO to check this exchange, it will tell you the QSO has been rejected.

I played with this a bit and noticed that it will verify based on what's in my outbox, even if the other end of the QSO has not confirmed the contact. If you verify the CG3OIJ contact to VA2MA (5 Jan 09, 2m band), it will validate even though Maurice Andre has yet to send a confirming log.

Yes, that behavior is OK. The VerifyQSO program is "directional" but it does not expect every eQSL to be confirmed. That way it can be used for other things than merely awards programs. Anyone using it for awards should make sure that the Callsign TO and Callsign FROM are correctly specified and that they are looking for RECEIVED eQSLs.
