I have two entries which have a "notify," yet their call sign looks up fine in QRZ...but apparently not through eQSL via QRZ? Meaning, since I can look them up directly...why is there a problem with the call signs in eQSL?
Thanks.

That is indicating that they don't have an account here, doesn't have anything to do with qrz. Use the callsign lookup tool on this site, it's at the top left hand corner of most pages, to look up those calls.

Hi Dave, Bill,

When I first registered to eqsl in 2005, I remember that by clicking on the notify button, you opened a new window, where you knew if the call had been found in qrz.com, in which case, you had an image of the e-mail adress above and you just had to type it in the field below.
Much easier and quicker to notify someone..
Now this window still exists, but in any case, it says "callsign not found"...

I suppose it no longer works because of big changes in the qrz interface. Lost forever ?

OTOH, when you look at the qrz page, you sometimes see "NO EQSL pse !" and it's better to know it instead of harassing someone with aimless messages.

Very interesting, Guy! I didn't know that. Either that had changed by the time I registered in 2006, or I just forgot about it :P

Yeah, qrz changed that interface quite some time ago, I don't remember when, but a few years ago. Before it was possible to do a qrz.com lookup from outside the site, now you need to be a paid subscriber in order to do that.

Thanks fellows and the problem you define, Guy, is exactly what I am seeing. So, if the "lookup" function doesn't work on eQSL, then it just won't work?
Thanks.

Hi Bill, I just answered a question you had about HRD/eQSL over on QRZ.com, I thought your callsign looked familiar!

Looks like the only way is to actually go over to QRZ.com to do the lookup, nothing can be done at this end because QRZ doesn't allow lookups anymore from other websites/programs, unless you have a paid subscription.

I'll need to tell the webmaster to remove that option I guess.

Thanks David and I am an XML subscriber on QRZ...so I think I should be able to have the lookups linked from eQSL to QRZ?

Not a trivial thing to do. First of all the webmaster would need to re-write that program to use the new XML interface, probably not too bad, but in order to access that XML data qrz requires the qrz username and password to be included. In the case of programs such as HRD that access that XML data, that username and password is entered as part of the setup and stored locally, that won't work here because the program is running on the server here, not on your local machine. Only way to do that would be to add those parameters to the user database record, and adding new fields to an existing, active database is very difficult, it would require shutting down the entire database, migrating all the old data to the new database (over 250,000 records) and then bringing up the new database. And, of course this would only be useful for users that have QRZ XML subscriptions.

A while ago QRZ added a free browser extension for chrome that allows you to right click and highlight a callsign found on any webpage, including eqsl, and perform a qrz lookup on it. I use it here all the time, might be helpful to you if you use chrome.

Thanks Dave. Since I am new here and to HRD, as well as the digital modes, I'm just trying to understand things. I guess that eQSL uses an internal call data base and not the FCC one, which explains my confusion. So, unless someone signs up here they aren't in the data base? Not a problem as long as I know that. The tip on Chrome is worth a look. I have been using WSJT-X and JT alert. I import the contacts from WSJT-X into the HRD log...and I think that all works fine.

Really appreciate the info.
