Getting more eQSLs » DX Expeditions/No eQSL service Apr 22, 2008 04:41 AM (Total replies: 7)

I belong to both LoTW, and eQSL. And I didn't have to jump through any hoops, so sorry if I dont get what the problem is there. Its very easy to use, and find it AS easy to use as eQSL is. I just use my log program to "export" the log to ADIF format and upload it to eQSL. I electronically sign the same exported log, and upload that to LoTW. No more work in signing the log than confirming each QSL here.

Second thing is, if you go for awards and certificates...if you upload to LoTW and get a match, you get credit for it period towards your award. If you upload it to eQSL, and get a match....but, they are NOT AG certified, then you get nothing toward your award, and its as if you never worked them at all.

Bottom line is, I enjoy both, and will continue to use both. And I think Andy and I have discussed the AG vs NON-AG is a few times....so again, I send to both, and "I get what I get", and will be happy with it.

I'm about 3 countries away from gettin my eDX (25 countries), but when I do, I will have no problem displaying it next to my WAS and WAC ARRL certificates. And if I work enough to get the eDX100, it will go up too.

One last thing....Sunday, I tried out BPSK31 for the first time and made about 4 contacts....and later that night, I received an eQSL from an SWL listener. I thought that was the neatest thing. Never got one of those before, and thats one thing you'll never get from LoTW. There IS room for both in my opinion.

Getting more eQSLs » EQSL from W1AW Apr 22, 2008 04:07 AM (Total replies: 5)

I have one too, but what I find very strange is, I sent an SASE with my card to W1AW and it contained all of the correct band, mode and time as the eQSL I received, but, they said I was NOT in their log, and did not send me a card. How could that be?

Getting more eQSLs » Why send e-QSL IF NOT a AG payed up member? Feb 19, 2008 08:48 PM (Total replies: 16)

I am trying hard myself and am close to my DXCC, (not a big deal for some) and half way to eDX here, but I do enjoy getting the certificates. I agree with you also that I know who I worked and who I didn't and don't need an award to prove it, but I still like them.

Even though I may have a difference of opinion on how the AG/Non-AG process is handled...I will at least donate enough to keep a bronze membership for myself, and I will continue to upload all contacts I log. Maybe the rest will work itself out eventually.

Getting more eQSLs » Why send e-QSL IF NOT a AG payed up member? Feb 18, 2008 05:15 AM (Total replies: 16)

To quote Andy... "...But even a non-AG eQSL is better than none..."

A non-AG card is worth about as much as the "print your own award". What can I do with them? I don't get any kind of credit for them. So whats the point exactly?

What I would like to see is....if "I'M" AG certified, and someone sends me an eQSL, then "I" should get credit for it period since it was confirmed by both parties! If THEY are also AG certified, then they get credit for it as well too, but if they are NOT AG certified, then they aren't allowed to use it towards any award until they DO get certified, but I should be allowed to use it.

General web site suggestions » Profile Update Error Jun 4, 2007 09:01 PM (Total replies: 0)

I used the same email address for both of my account profiles to keep everything together. Seemed logical to me. And, it didn't give me an error at the time I created them either.

Now, when I try to "update" one or the other, I get the following error:

Profile Update Error:
There is already another user with that email.

Any chance of adding the INDEXA logo in the QSL maker?

INDEXA = International DX Association.

Getting more eQSLs » What do you do with eQSLs? Jun 1, 2007 02:22 AM (Total replies: 31)

Quote: The purpose of this discussion thread was to provide others with some ideas of ways to display their QSL collection whether they are e-QSL cards, printed or just downloaded, or whether they are paper QSL cards sent by mail.

Complaining about e-QSLs acceptance or nonacceptance for awards by various organizations is not appropriate for this topic nor, in my opinion, should it be a condition for upgrading to Silver or Gold membership.

I can not afford to send a paper QSL card to every station that I contact but using e-QSL I can make an e-QSL available to every station I contact. I do provide paper QSL cards for all cards received in such a manner.

I will comment on your reply in another thread...

So to stay on topic, I scan the paper ones (both sides if applicable, and cut/paste them into one single image), DL the "AG" cards and save them to a CD so I can go back and look at them from time to time, or have something to brag about to other hams. I don't have the wall space to display them, or I would.

I even thought about making a screen saver that would randomly pull up a QSL image too, but haven't had the time. I have 300+ more cards to log....hopefully I'll get some hits so I can add them to the gallery too.

Another thought would be....and they are rather expensive....but to put them in an LCD Digital Picture Frame. Load your images on a memory stick and plug it in.

Authenticity Guaranteed » AG Required to Join? May 30, 2007 04:35 AM (Total replies: 41)

I feel that in order to GET an eQSL award, you SHOULD be a member, but, you should also be allowed to get "credit" for eQSL's received from NON-AG members too.

As was stated earlier, some DXpeditions will upload their log as a courtesy, but won't take the time to get AG certified. We're lucky if they register in the first place. So, that "rare" country, or island I'm looking for is practically worthless as far as getting credit for it, except for the fact I can say I did work them...and if I have no proof that I worked them, then I could say I did anyway. (which I wouldn't, just mentioned to make a point)

Its hard enough to get someone to acknowledge the eQSL in the FIRST place, and then, to have them reguster so they will be valid is even harder.

What I would like to see is this...

1.) I am a member, I am AG certified, and I am eligable for eAWARDS. I submit my logs, and get a 35% return on my QSO's. (if I'm lucky), I get credit for those QSO that were returned regardless whether they were from an AG, or NON-AG member. But, the NON-AG member will NOT get award credit for our QSO, or get an eQSL back unless they also register. Once they register, they will get award credit for the QSO, and then my eQSL will be released to them.

2.) AG members will be able to get award credit, AND print out a hard copy of the eQSL card. NON-AG members won't get award credit, and won't have the ability to print out the card, or even view it until they subscribe. Once they do, the cards are released to them. They should be able to view the QSO's in list form and, but not have the option to view or print.

3.) Or let them "view the cards, but have a "watermark" of some sort so it will be on the card if they print it, and if, and when they register, the watermark goes away.

Maybe give the NON-AG members more of an "incentive" to join. And give AG members an incentive to donate to keep this going.

Just my .02 (maybe not worth that much)

I posted a similiar question about this earlier in a different area.

If I spend hours making contacts and get countries I need for an award and they use eQSL instead of sending me a card via the bureau, then I can use these for eQSL, but will NOT get credit for the DXCC award too? If thats so, what incentive do I have to use eQSL in the first place?

It shouldn't matter how I got the confirmation, as long as its verified properly, either electronically, or paper card. If I print out an eQSL, it SHOULD count when I apply for or upgrade the DXCC award period.

I am just a bronze member now, but if half of my contacts use eQSL, and the other half send a card, or use LotW, thats double work for me. Meaning, I would have to confirm 200 countries to achieve my goal. I don't get a chance to get on as much as I would like, so this would be a henderence for me.

Depending on if I can, or can't use them, will effect whether I upgrade to Silver, or Gold status too.

I usually request a card sent to the bureau when I make a contact, (I always QSL back if requested too) but if they don't, and send it to eQSL instead, and I don't get DXCC credit for it too, then, that just doesn't seem fair I guess. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way.

I do however, enjoy EVERY contact I make, stateside, and in different countries, and its exciting working one I haven't heard yet, or one thats considered "rare"...so that is A JOY in itself, and THE reason I became a "ham" in the first place. (still is) The awards come last. I'm a VE, and do a lot of volunteer work too for special events, and emergency and disaster work too, but, its nice to have a little "wallpaper" here and there as well.
