Complete Honor Roll

25 Years of Electronic QSLs
Electronic QSL Card Centre: 1998 to 2008
Long before Logbook of the World was even on the drawing board, our first generation web site was launched on May 14, 1998. Within a few months, a die-hard group of early adopters had already begun spreading the word, and we registered our first thousand members.

We ran a small HamAds advertisement in QST and asked people to "QSL VIA QSLCARD.COM" at the end of each QSO.

In 2000, the technology was available to convert the system from one based on sequential files to one using a real database. And it's a good thing, because we jumped from 100,000 up to 1 million eQSLs in our database that year, and our membership stood at over 7,000.

Not much more than a year later, we were already at 10 million eQSLs and over 30,000 members. By 2006, we crossed the 100,000 member mark.

And on New Year's Eve 2007/2008 we had more than 122,000 members and over 92 million eQSLs in our database. eQSL.cc was still growing exponentially, adding about 50 new members every day and 2,500 new eQSLs every HOUR. In January 2008 there were over 6 Gigabytes of eQSL graphics, and over 33 Gigabytes of log data in our online database. Our members were spreading the word like wildfire, and we were literally the FIRST website to "go viral"!

Electronic QSL Card Centre: 2008 to 2018
During the second 10 years, our membership grew from 122,000 members to over 280,000 members, surpassing the total ARRL membership, with over 340,000 QTH accounts.

Our eQSL database grew from 92 million to 558 million cards online. During the first 10 years, we approved just over 5,000 eAwards, and in the second decade that number grew exponentially to over 126,000.

Today over a thousand of our users are taking advantage of $1 or $2.50 monthly subscriptions to maintain their Bronze or Silver memberships in force indefinitely without the trouble of renewing every year.

We store 23GB of custom eQSL designs our users have uploaded, and our log database contains several hundred gigabytes of data.

Read more about our server farm.

69,000 users are taking advantage of real-time logger imports of their QSOs, giving us charts, maps, and lists of who is on the air in real-time and what propagation conditions are, right now as well as historically.
Electronic QSL Card Centre: 2018 to 2023
In September, 2019 we began migrating 2 of our servers from IBM CLOUD Data Center DAL01 to the more modern DAL13, and the Off-site Backup Server to WDC04 in Washington DC for wide area disaster fault tolerance. The database server was moved by the end of September, and the Application Server by the end of October. More details about the New 2019 System. These servers are generally faster, bigger, and have twice the RAM of previous servers. Our speed tests to date have shown the system to be faster as a result, with plenty of headroom for growth. The servers are located in several state-of-the-art IBM CLOUD data centers. These are certified by an independent auditor to be SAS 70 Type II compliant, with raised floors, climate control, fire-suppression system, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and standby power generators, as well as 24 hour-a-day live human staff monitoring the systems from 2 separate, redundant network operations centers. One of the most significant benefits of selecting eQSL.cc as your QSL exchange is the high level of security and fault-tolerance that is offered from an IBM Cloud facility designed to house E-Commerce sites. Servers are located in an extra-secure environment featuring top-of-the-line security systems that incorporate biometric identification systems, closed-circuit cameras, security patrols, social engineering practices and restricted floor access. Physical security in IBM Cloud data centers is so tight that not even eQSL management is allowed into the data center!

In September, 2022 we migrated all our servers from the IBM data centers to a new server farm at Hostek, located in the center of the United States. This hosting company provides us better support for our ColdFusion 2021 and SQL Server foundations of our system, as well as utilizing the fastest SSD disk arrays and off-site backup. At the same time, we hired the top ColdFusion and SQL Server consultant in the world to help us speed the system up considerably. The new server farm provides us with greatly upgraded real-time monitoring capabilities to find and cure any bottlenecks or speed problems in a system that is typically servicing 500 users per minute with response times measured in milliseconds.

Where we stand now
We have over 360,000 users, including 6348 from countries considered RARE DX. We are currently importing an average of 3 log records per second, day in and day out, 24/7, with peaks of 15 records per second on some occasions. We have over 1.13 billion eQSLs in our database, and have saved each of our users an average of $5,500 in QSL costs by serving QSL cards in the cloud. There are currently 124 different eAwards and endorsements available, and we have approved over 396,000 eAward applications for the 24,000 participants in the eAwards program. Putting eQSLs in the cloud has saved over 223,000 trees which absorb 4,900 tons of CO2 per year.
