Just curious why eQSL requires signal reports for eQSLs and eAwards? ARRL doesn't and not sure if CQ does. Some contests don't use or require signal reports (like the ARRL Field Day)and before uploading those ADIF files to eQSL, one needs to add the <RST> portion manually using a text editor. This is a real pain. So again, why is it required?

Hello Andy,

I agree with you, imho rst is required simply because a qsl normally have it. But for almost all contest rst is only a conventional 599.

In psk from a while i send a conventional 599 and S/N - IMD in db, it's more accurate than rst!

That's a good question. It's been so long since I wrote the log entry screen, I'll have to go look it up. I presume you are referring to the manual log entry screen, because I don't think the ADIF import programs require RST.

Of course, that's just my opinion... I could be wrong!

Dave,
I think somewhere in your rules it states that in order for a QSO to qualify for an eAward eQSL it must have RS or RST in the entry whether it is an ADIF upload or Manual entry. I upload my club's Field Day entries and have to add the RS or RST info into the ADIF file before up loading. If that is not required anymore, it would sure be a great lad off our shoulders as many contest logs don't require RS or RST. Please let us know one way or the other.

to be honest, most IMD reports given are not especially accurate.

To properly measure IMD, the PSK signal must be quite strong, have no QSB, and most importantly, the sender must be transmitting PSK idle tones.

The little number that bounces around at the bottom of HRD/MixW/etc. is very little more than a random number unless all those conditions are met. You simply cannot get an accurate report of IMD with an S2 signal that has fading.

Your best estimate of IMD on a regular signal is provided by the mark I eyeball - if it has sidebars, the IMD is bad, if it doesn't the IMD is good.

Hi all,

RS(T) required ??

Fortunately, the format is not so strict, because I have some confirmed dxcc entites, US states on JT65A with reports varying from -25 to 0 db (or OOO, RO..... :-(( )

and after all, it means more than an automatic 59 or 599 or something approximative you find quickly because you did not really watch your S-meter.

Art,
I don't propose to remove the RS(T) from the QSO or eQSLs, I just don't think it should be a requirement for the eAwards as most are '59 or 599' and don't give a true representation. Especialy during a contest.
