The forum appears to have gone into semi-dormant status with a half-dozen or so of us looking in from time to time, but no involvement or assistance from anyone representing eQSL that I can discern...--- Original message by K8TOM Wm. on May 8, 2009 01:08 PM
It's interesting to click on each of the moderator's links to see the posting information.

G4VXE is long gone - over a year since any activity here.
N5UP has made one post in May but that is the only post in 6 months
W3ZJ appears to visit but otherwise is inactive too - last post 17 months ago.

Support - English speaking » Routing of /QRP Apr 19, 2009 02:27 PM (Total replies: 6)

Hi Dave. Well, when I have someone add /QRP to my callsign mid-QSO, I think it's well intentioned and intended as a compliment - can't expect everyone outside the UK to know the fine details of our licensing.

For what it's worth, so far I've had no eQSLs sent to me with the (unwanted) /QRP suffix.

Coincidentally, I was readling the "lifetime licence" again recently, and I was surprised to see that adding /P /M /A /MM, while still the only permitted suffixes, is now only "recommended" and the the licensee "may" add them!!!

Maybe it's with having been around some time, but personally I liked it when they were mandatory, or perhaps they are and the author of the licence hasn't chosen his or her words carefully enough.

On the other hand maybe they'll next drop the requirement for the G/GM/GW etc. prefix change like the USA have dropped the call areas suffix requirement - ugh!

I was just thinking about this ... I wonder if it's because the newest account is covering the same dates as my original account?

I set up a G3ZOD and G3ZOD/QRP to cover the same period (for obvious reasons).

Hmm.

Hi Andy, many thanks for the suggestion.

I tried moving the "Primary Account" to the one that doesn't appear, also tried having none of them set as "Primary Account" and also I deleted my browser cookies between tests in case that was having some effect.

No change though ... the same 2 out of 3 accounts are offered after logging on - in fact, setting "Primary Account" doesn't seem to do anything at all.

In My Profile / My Other Accounts, under "My Accounts", I have three accounts which I can log into successfully from there.

However, when I first log in to www.eqsl.cc, I only get offered two out of the three accounts as choices.

I must be missing something somewhere, but I can't see where.

Any ideas, please?

SWLs » QSL card for SWL ? Feb 20, 2009 12:25 AM (Total replies: 23)

Wow, some folk are setting high goals for SWL reports. As a QRP'er with limited antennas mostly working CW and only one of a vast number of English (G) stations, a very common country, I'd love to get some SWL reports! As for requiring the callsign of both stations, that would be difficult if calling CQ. If I ever got any SWL reports, personally I'd be happy to confirm unless there's something obviously wrong. There's always going to be an element of trust in this and there will always be a few who abuse it, so I'm not going to penalise the good guys.

Actually, I did get a nice report via email from an Italian amateur last week. When I asked why he didn't call me, he replied that his CW speed wasn't up to it as yet (I told him he should call at whatever speed he was comfortable with!). What a nice guy; I'm going to send him a QSL card when I get my new ones back from the printers.

Alan, good luck with getting your licence!

Quote: Graham,
I don't believe confirmed eQSLs can be deleted. I recently uploaded some QSOs for a club (w1brs) that had the RST missing. When I tried to delete them so that I could reload the corrected ones, the system would not delete the confirmed ones. I had to go and manually edit each of those.
Andy, that's not what the Delete log entries web page says:

http://www.eqsl.cc/QSLCard/DeleteBlockLog.cfm

Quote: "You should ONLY delete log entries if you have errors.
Don't delete them just because
the recipients have already retrieved their cards!
Recipients must be able to access all your eQSLs
in order to apply for eAwards and eContests.

If you delete your eQSLs,
you take them away from the recipients!

Support - English speaking » Download of eQSL cards Feb 17, 2009 04:33 PM (Total replies: 13)

Quote: Dave,
I think we should stop using this utility because, accodording to Dave N5UP (site owner), this utility greatly slows down the server when too many people try to use it. Here is a quote from Dave from the eQSL Yahoo group:

I just spent several minutes trying to track down a 60% CPU
utilization with a high network bandwidth. I finally discovered 3
German users were mass-downloading their eQSL graphics.

As I mentioned before, the system has to generate each eQSL graphic at
the time you request it. It is not simply a matter of downloading a
static file. Large volume graphics generation is not a good idea, and
if it is abused, I'll have to implement a throttle rather than
allowing a few people to jeopardize the speed of the system for the
rest of the members.

You know, one reason I would like to download all my cards is because (as I understand it), another user can delete their logs and then the corresponding confirmed eQSL cards vanish.

I feel that this is wrong; once confirmed an eQSL should be safe (rather like once you have a paper QSL, it's yours to keep and the owner can't suddenly change their mind).

Apologies if I've misunderstood this part of the way the system works!

Support - English speaking » email notifications Feb 9, 2009 01:03 PM (Total replies: 2)

Hi. Is it just me or are others finding the emails sent from eQSL to be patchy?

Sometimes I get notified when I have new eQSLs and sometimes I don't (e.g. when I checked today, I had two new eQSLs waiting but hadn't had an email).

Similarly, although I've been ticking "Subscribe me to this topic..." with posts in these forums, I've never yet had an email notification when replies have been posted.

I have my email set up to route any items it classifies as "spam" to a separate folder that I check daily, so it's not an "anti-spam" issue.

Support - English speaking » Routing of /QRP Feb 9, 2009 12:51 PM (Total replies: 6)

Andy and Uli, thanks for your help. I have set up a new attached account; although there weren't any eQSLs waiting, I guess it's the sensible thing to do in case anyone sends them there in the future.

I strikes me that it would be far better if /QRP were automatically sent to the applicable base callsign account unless the user deliberately attaches a /QRP account. Unlike all the other common suffixes (/A /M /MM /P /AM /1 /2 etc.), /QRP isn't a "real" callsign and also there's no change in location associated with /QRP.

I wonder if people also send eQSLs to /QRPP? This could make looking after all these accounts very onerous.

Perhaps the eQSL system should automatically send an email alerting a user with an account if it sees that eQSLs are being sent to their callsign but with a suffix or prefix that they don't yet have an attached account set up.

Hi. I never sign as G3ZOD/QRP but some stations start sending that callsign anyway when they find out I'm running QRP.

Will any G3ZOD/QRP eQSLs arrive at my G3ZOD account, or do I have to set up a G3ZOD/QRP account as well?

Thanks

eAward Suggestions » Support for power level Feb 2, 2009 08:40 AM (Total replies: 9)

Diego and Andy, thanks for your replies. However, this is illegal in the UK - stations are NOT allowed to add /QRP to their callsigns. If you ever work (on CW or a digital mode) someone with a "G", "M" or "2" callsign signing /QRP, they are acting outside their licence terms.

Could really do with supporting output power level in ADIF and eQSLs; for QRP enthusiasts this is important. Currently all it's possible to do is add a note in the comments.

This could also underpin QRP variants of awards.
