Convert the first page of the .pdf file to a .jpg of fairly small file and upload that.

Support - English speaking » Upgrade to silver with 2 calls registered Nov 6, 2009 07:12 PM (Total replies: 2)

If both calls are "attached" and listed together under "My Accounts", the Silver Status applies to both, AFAIK, Chaim. You only pay once.

[I registered one call, upgraded to silver and then added a second call / account. My silver status appears against both calls.]

Getting more eQSLs » EQSL Stats Nov 6, 2009 07:00 PM (Total replies: 11)

Interesting statistics Darin.

In October, I did a two-week stint as 8Q7EJ. In about 40 hours of operating 1127 QSOs - 1041 CW, 49 PSK, 33 ssb, 3 rtty. eQSL is indicated as a preferred option at qrz.com. I got AG status for the call as soon as I got back from the trip.

I have replied to 94 incoming cards in 27 countries and not sent out any unsolicited eQSLs - the assumption is that the unusual call will attract requests. The break-down is:

Mode - Cards - % of QSOs
CW 82 - 7.9%
PSK 8 - 16.3%
SSB 4 - 12%
RTTY 0

81 are AG, 13 are non-AG which is higher percentage AG than I was expecting from my experience with my G3 call

There have been no new eQSL requests for two days now so the initial rush is over.

I have 16 direct airmail requests so far. It is too early for Bureau cards.

I had expected a higher unsolicited request rate for an unusual call with a country which is probably not activated very often with AG status and eQSL promoted.

Country distribution of the QSOs was

European Russia - 21%
Japan 11%
Ukraine 9%
Germany 8%
Czech Republic 4%
USA 3%
Poland 3%
etc

I have begun sadly to adopt the same policy. I have seen 3000+ cards waiting with some very nice DX represented in the Inbox. Sometimes the person has gone to the trouble of getting AG and is wanted DX by me for a new country.

However the comment that logging programs may download cards without archiving them suggests that my assumptions may be wrong and the station would actually respond.

The statistics for eQSL are not encouraging and I have a few countries where my only QSL is non-AG.

Disappointing. eQSL is such a good system. You would expect it to be more widely used.

Support - English speaking » eZ40 Zone Award Software Problem Nov 6, 2009 11:26 AM (Total replies: 3)

> Are they 'Attached' to each other?

Yes

> Do you have two different QTH addresses for the accounts?

The QTH Nickname is different. The address City is different. The remainder of the address is my UK address in both cases since that is where any posted QSL cards should go; my UK address is what should appear on the QSL card image. There is no point in recording the full address of the hotel where I was only for two weeks. The island location is on the QSL image file.

> Putting both your calls into the search box and in QRZ.com produce
> what seems to be the correct results. I see that in QRZ your Maldives call is in zone 22,
> but I don't see a zone for the G3DVB call

I don't understand what QRZ.COM has to do with it. It's eQSL software that is dealing with Zones incorrctly. England (G3VDB) is Zone CQ 14 and ITU Zone 27. Maldives 8Q7EJ is Zone 22 / ITU 41. My two attached eQSL Profiles says they are both 14 / 27.

eQSL recognised 8Q7 as "Maldives" but then recorded it as Zone 14 / 27 which is WRONG. It also locked that value. I have supplied a copy of the 8Q7 licence and it is now AG status. Against the Zone Values is a Help Link which brings up a dialog box that says

"You cannot change your QTH after someone has already displayed/printed your cards. You cannot change your QTH if you already have Authenticity Guaranteed status. Contact Support if you need to change your QTH information."

I contact Support and they tell me to change the value in my profile!! The volunteer in question does not know how the software works clearly. Not unreasonable - it's complex! I have sent an image of the "locked" Zones screen and so far not had a second response. Not unreasonable - it's complex!

Clearly I have created a situation which the eQSL software does not resolve properly. It appears to be a bug when dealing with linked accounts in two separate countries, certainly where the address is put in for a "QSL manager" rather than for the actual temporary location.

Now perhaps if I change the address to the hotel address it will resolve itself but it makes a nonsense of the QSL card. I don't want the hotel address appearing on the QSL card. Now I have AG status, I will probably need "Support" to do some change otherwise it makes a nonsense of AG status!

I have reported the above Zone anomaly before here. Later I requested "Support" help as suggested in the "Help" dialog.

I then noticed that when you examine eZ40 standings from either call, it is amalgamating the operation of the two callsigns - more non-sense - another bug - probably related to the two calls being given the same zone.

Hope that helps.

This is not that important to me. I got AG status for 8Q7EJ as a courtesy for eQSL users. I have had about 10% of my QSOs eQSL me so far. I am applying for LOTW which is probably more important to most dx operators. But it would be useful if my records showed the correct information for those eQSL users who want 8Q7 for country (which is correct) or Zone (which is incorrect) awards.

As I say - software is complex - I don't see what more I can do to highlight eQSLs problems so that they can be resolved.

> address in your account profile for both QTHs.

Yes it certainly has something to do the England Address being copied over to the Maldives entry when 8Q7EJ was first created. Since my location in the Maldives is a hotel, I do want my UK address, not the hotel address, on the eQSL card so I have left that in place. I indicate the DX location in the uploaded graphic. The Zones seem to be based on the mailing country, not on the Callsign country.

I have been able to design the QSL card around it to show the correct information, but thought it was worth raising the apparent problem.

Of course I may have chosen some wrong options when I created the additional callsign / account.

I am primarily registered as G3VDB. I have added my recent vacation callsign 8Q7EJ as an extra account on my accounts. The fact that the two calls are in different countries is not automatically handled and the address details came up as my UK address with Maldives as the country. I can change most things through the profile for 8Q7EJ

The one anomaly that I have not overcome is that the 8Q7EJ profile says the zones are 14 and 27 (as G3VDB) not the correct ones of 22 and 41. On the QSL card image I have used one of my four lines to include the correct zone info.

Perhaps someone needs to check that the software handles this "two country" situation correctly.

69 eQSL's for 8Q7EJ alread (out of 1127 QSOs).

Regards to all and thanks for a great service.
